I will miss Mr. Cahill. It was always a pleasure to see him in the building and neighborhood. He would have a kind word and a warm smile and was always dressed so elegantly. Sending warm condolences to his family.

Tom was a kind, gentle man with a keen intellect and a razor sharp wit. He was loving and devoted to his family and to his longtime companion, Antoinette, with whom he shared many happy years after the death of his beloved wife. We have many happy memories of time spent at Antoinette’s house, including the stories he shared and the delicious pizza he made. We are happy we saw him shortly before he passed and had a few laughs. We are privileged to have known him.

Rest in peace Tommy. A wonderful man who put us up on multiple occasions in Stuyvesant, and not just put us up but minded and was a wonderful guide and wise confidante. Thank you for your welcoming and hospitality. Condolences to all the family.

Thomas Cahill was our neighbor in Stuyvesant Town, and although we only met him 5 years ago and visited with him in passing, his warmth, kindliness, and delight in life was obvious. He always had a quick smile for people and asked about one's health, even when his own was failing. Tom was a true gentleman and a fine person. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.

Tom was an unusual & beautiful example of sagacity in many ways. Some memories stand out:
One of the most important lessons I tried to learn from Tom, as we met at the StuyTown café or around the Oval, was his wise conservation of personal energy & attention, firmly reserving those for what was most important & meaningful to him: appreciating the moment, his family, thoughts, company; whatever he was able to do. He also had a saucy side & "did not suffer fools gladly."
*
One day, while yakking on the benches outside our apt building, we were quite distressed about current events. Tom, while caring, took a very different view. He lovingly admonished us: "Here you are, with 2 Masters Degrees between you, worrying about things you cannot control. I, with no higher education, am enjoying this beautiful day. "
*
As a voracious reader, I often came upon a description of a beloved gentleman with "a twinkle in his eye", which I took as literary license, as I had never seen such a thing. However, shortly after I met Tom, & began to truly enjoy his company, I remarked to him in delighted amazement: "YOU actually HAVE that twinkle in your eye!"
He enjoyed that observation....
He is greatly missed.

My Bench Buddy
Tom was one of my favorite Neibors. Many hours we sat on our favorite bench in Stuytown talking.
I loved listening to his life stories; working in the coal mines in Scotland, serving in the US army and raising a wonderful family. I felt he was a wise man.
My favorite quotes from Tom.
"Don't worry about things you cannot change."
"Life is worth living."
I greatly miss my friend!

A life well lived.
Tommy was a true friend, a craftsman but most of all he loved his family and they loved him. All that he did he did with total commitment.
In the workplace he was a respected forman on many complex sheet metal projects.
I am thankful for the many memories I have of time spent with Tommy. May he rest in peace.
