Señora Calderon era una verdadera estrella de rock.
Her continuous support and encouragement meant the world to everyone’s life she touched.
The first time I ever met Yvette’s kind mom, she radiated joy and taught me “su casa era mi casa.”
A true Latina, she exemplified sharing: opinions, stories (boy could she make anything sound interesting), breakfast (her cafe con leche rocked), experiences, food and, of course, family. Her rice and beans were legendary and my favorite.
Mrs. Calderon was the one (when I was jobfree!) to find me an affordable NYC apartment steps away from Central Park West. Every potential employer was so impressed that I had found such an incredible place to live, that their opinion of me escalated and I was offered job ... after job. Living in NYC changed my life and put me on a different trajectory.
When I tried to speak Spanish, she even forgave my harsh accent. Quick to hug, she'd update me on all the latest telenovelas.
Yvette has been my sister and best friend forever. Para Siempre.
God bless you, Mrs. Calderon.
