Miss Jane F. Weidlund, formerly a Senior United Nations Official passed away in August 6 2021 at her retirement residential facility The Osborne, in Rye, New York.

During her distinguished almost forty year career with the United Nations, she held several important positions, the last one as the Deputy Director for Technical Assistance Recruitment Administration Service ( TARAS) in the Department.of Technical Cooperation for Development. Prior to that responsibility she was Chief of the Central America and Caribbean Section of the Americas Branch, after several years as Chief of Section.in the Africa Branch of the Department. Such undertakings required her missions to many of the countries involved in order to programme, negotiate and review projects in partnership with their respective governments. In addition, she  traveled almost worldwide as an avid lover of all cultures.

Among her other contributions, Miss Weidlund held with much satisfaction her pioneering role in the development  of the plan and realization of the establishment of the United Nations Volunteers, a worthwhile UN organizational entity. The resulting valuable contribution to UN programmes that has profited from a diversity of pro-bono service on a myriad of needs worldwide was due greatly to her initiative.

After retiring in 1986 she simultaneously served as a voluntary economic adviser to the Holy See Mission to the United Nations and on the Governing Board of the Association of Former International Civil Servants (AFICS NY). For her eight years of voluntary service to the Holy See Mission to the United Nations Miss Weidlund was decorated with a Vatican Medal for her noble contribution to the Church. Her tireless service to AFICS NY where she was elected and reelected as a member of the Governing Board culminated in her designation as an Honorary lifetime member of this association. In addition, Miss Weidlund was as well a long time dedicated volunteer in the main building of the New York Public Library.

Her demise has been sorely felt by many colleagues and friends. Arrangements for her internment at Arlington National Cemetery are pending and a Memorial Mass in celebration of her life will be held at the Holy Family Church Parish for the United Nations community on November 19, 2021 at 2:30pm
